Mi capita di viaggiare con Thai, ho la tessera frequent Flyer, sono soddisfatto del servizio di volo, lo spazio in economy non è tanto ma va bene così.
Quello che proprio non funziona è il loro sito, la possibilità di prenotare on line un volo, l'impossibilità di pagarlo online.
La cosa peggiore è che in realtà è possibile pagarlo online, l'ho fatto non più tardi di 36ore fa, ho inserito i dati della mia carta di credito per un volo Malpensa-Jakarta sul sito www.thaiair.com.
Ho ricevuto un e-ticket, qualcosa che può essere stampato e presentato al bancone di un aereoporto per ottenere dei biglietti cartacei validi per il volo. Peccato che in realtà quanto ricevuto non valga nulla, non sia valido nemmeno come prenotazione. Se non fosse stato per un mio scrupolo, conoscendo le capacità organizzative di Thai, almeno per quanto riguarda l'Italia, se non avessi avuto dubbi della validità del biglietto e-ticket in mano mia, mi sarei presentato al bancone dell'aereoporto pronto per partire con della carta straccia in mano. Ad oggi non mi è arrivato alcun messagio / indicazione / email / telefonata del fatto che questa prenotazione non ha alcun valore.
Per questa ragione oggi ho impiegato il pomeriggio per presentarmi ad un ufficio Thai,
prendere un nuovo biglietto, accertarmi della completa non validità del precedente,
e pagare 40€ per non-so-che-diritti-di-agenzia, naturalmente senza ricevuta...

Storage disks
As a travel photographer I always evaluate the trade off between _saving space_ and weight and size of my luggage. A laptop is always a great solution to quickly save pictures, edit them, perhaps catalog, make backup copies and similar. I've used it in situations ... A laptop is not always the perfect solution, even the small MacBook 15" could be simply too heavy and big to be a good companion in some travels in which everything should be shoulder-carried. I generally shoot RAW, with a Canon 1DsMarkII means that 1 file weights something like 15, 20mb, sometimes more. I own 20Gb in CF cards and since their price dropped lately could be a good solution for many. 20Gb could be filled in 4, 5 days of medium-intense shooting. I generally shoot 8, 10gb a day in situations like Venice Carnival.
For this reason an alternative solution to laptop and CF cards is needed. I've used two X's Drive II, 40Gb each. A moderate cheap solution, for a small and handy way of saving your cards.
Some _XXXXXXXXXXXX_ though.
1. Battery runs out in minutes, a 6GB Microdrive card cannot be fully backed up without AC plugged in
2. no control about saved files, if some error occurs, I hade some on my CF, the reader stops copying and in a minute or so it turns off. Only 1 information is displayed, the remaining space available. I've lost pictures for this.
I've recently buyed a Epson P3000. So far, seems to be great.
It's fast, in displaying, copying, backing up. Shows videos and plays MP3.
It has 40gb of internal HD, it reads somehow RAW files. Well, currently it reads the internal thumbnail, it makes no conversion at all, but this is good enough for me for an immediate feedback on a 4" LCD display for keeping track of my pictures and for checking dust on my sensor. However, one of the best features is the control over external USB peripherals,
disks, USB keys.
Initially, I bought a 120 2"5 internal drive for substituting its internal HD.
I've the knowledge to make a perfect copy of the internal drive.
But two reasons stopped me in making this: I don't want to lose my warranty, I've serious doubts about its internal OS in managing HD superior to 80gb.
Moreover, control over USB external peripherals, gave a new life to my external couple of
XDrives. The 120gb works perfectly into the "dumber" XDrive. The XDrive could be considered as a external box for 2"5 drives and using it as an external drive for my Epson P3000 is the simplest thing to do.
Right now I've something like 240gb on small drives I can use to backup my CF cards, and a 4" display to keep everything under control. AC adapters are a bit weighty, but this solution could allow me to 1, 2 months trip in Oceania.
